For those players who didn’t get drafted last weekend, they have a longer road to the NFL. They have to sell themselves to NFL teams in hopes of being signed on as an undrafted free agent.
Arizona signed 14 of them to contracts and the list of them is below. List downloaded from NFL.com.
Northern Arizona RB Zach Bauman; Illinois LB Jonathan Brown; Penn State LB Glenn Carson; UNLV RB Tim Cornett; East Carolina DE Lee Pegues; UCLA CB Brandon Sermons; Washington WR Kevin Smith; Alabama G Anthony Steen; Newberry WR Corey Washington; SE Louisiana CB Todd Washington; and Albany State OT Kadeem Williams rounds out the group.
Most of the undrafted free agents will make the initial training camp roster, Most of them will be cut loose in the first round of cuts at training camp when rosters whittle down from 90 to 53. Few make it on the roster afiter first cuts. As the cuts progress, the likelihood of a player making the roster shrink exponentialy.
Some players of note have made the journey from undrafted free agent to NFL starter. Tony Romo, London Fletcher, Priest Holmes, Adam Vinatieri, Arian Foster, Wes Welker, James Harrison, John Randle and Antonio Gates all went that route to get into the NFL so it can be done.
The only question is which one of the Cardinals 2014 UDFAs will take that same path.
