Football season is slowly coming. The NFL is an all-year kind of business but there is some down time.
Now that the draft is over and teams are in the process of signing picks, there are dates for fans of the Denver Broncos to mark on their calendar.
Here are the five best:
5. May 16-18 – Rookie camp
This weekend will be the first time the new Broncos hit the field. Some other players will be there but none of the big names. It is a chance for the rookies to get together and know each other. The coaches also get to see what they drafted.
4. June 10-12 – Mandatory mini-camp
The other mini-camps are labeled as “voluntary” but most of the Broncos will be there. This mandatory one makes every player be there or they will be fined. This will be first time the whole team will be on the field. With Peyton Manning as the quarterback, the entire team will be there and ready to work.
3. July 24 – Training camp opens
Camp will have a different feel this season as no fans can come to Dove Valley. But it is still the official start of the NFL season for the Broncos. These practices will give the new-look defense a chance to gel. There will be three open practices at Sports Authority Field during the summer.
2. Sept.7 – Opening night against the Colts
Another “Super Bowl or bust” season starts with a primetime matchup with Manning’s former team. The Colts beat the Broncos last season in Indy but this game will be in Denver. The Broncos will be looking to make a statement on Sunday Night Football and show they are ready to make a run at the title.
1. Jan. 4, 2015
The start of the NFL playoffs is where the season really starts for the Broncos. The regular season is about winning the division and getting a solid seed. The playoffs are where 2014-15 will be made for the Broncos. They are the favorites to win the AFC and one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. It will be put up or shut up time for Denver.
