Cowboys sign FA RB Ryan Williams

The Dallas Cowboys continue to bargain shop in hopes to add depth at critical positions.

Today Jerry Jones has signed former Arizona Cardinal running-back Ryan Williams. Williams a product out of Virginia Techwas taken 38th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Cardinals.

Williams hasn’t had much of a start to his career after rupturing his patella tendon and missing his rookie season. Williams will look to add depth behind starter DeMarco Murray, who has been know to miss a game or six. Murray, however is coming off a 1000+ yard season, the first of Tony Romo’s career behind center and first for the Cowboys since Julius Jones.

At 24, Williams still has some time in this league and the Cowboys are intrigued by his running style. With the Cowboys likely to let veteran Phillip Tanner walk, it seems likely that Williams could find a role but he will have stiff competition in the form of some UDFA’s like Ben Malena.
