Report: Houston Texans nearly drafted Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles first overall

Now that the 2014 NFL draft is over, general managers have started to open up about where players were on their team’s big board.

Several teams including the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots have said that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was their top passer in the draft. That’s something that has to make every Jaguars fan feel good, it’s not everyday the Jaguars get a player that the rest of the league wants.

Now, one more team has come forward and revealed where they valued Bortles.

According to a report, the Houston Texans had Bortles name filled out on one of their draft cards for the first overall pick in the draft. Houston eventually ended up choosing defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the first overall pick, one that most agreed was the right choice for Houston.

The Texans held the first pick in the draft and there’s was much intrigue right up until the final minutes. Houston seriously considered Blake Bortles with the initial selection and I’m told they had two cards filled out at their table. One had Bortles name on it while the other listed the team’s eventual selection, Jadeveon Clowney. – Draft Insider

If you watched the draft on NFL Network, they did show the Texans table as they were filling out their draft card and indeed, two cards were filled out. However, nobody knew just who they had in mind until now.
