Deone Bucannon tries to be “too perfect”

Everyone strives for perfection but for Arizona Cardinals rookie safety Deone Bucannon, that could be too much of a good thing.

According to a Darren Urban article on the team’s website, Bucannon is trying to be perfect on every play.

“(Deone has) only got one problem — He is so much a perfectionist,” coach Bruce Arians said in the article. “It is paralysis by analysis right now because he wants to do everything just perfect.

“Even Tyrann (Mathieu) told him, ‘Just play.’ You can’t play perfect all the time. But you do love that about him.”

These are things like defending a pass with one hand and not two in practice. They look like little things to us but it’s a very encouraging sign that he takes his role seriously. He also has the services of Patrick Peterson, Antonio Cromartie, Tony Jefferson and Tyrann Mathieu to help him.

Even though he was a first-round pick, Bucannon has the drive of a late-round pick.

“Right now, I’m just trying to make the team. I don’t take anything for granted”, Bucannon said in the article, “They can cut me anytime. I’m not here to go through the motions.”
