I hate…that Charlie Whitehurst didn’t really lose an arm-wrestling match to Brett Kern

Tennessee Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst initially made up the story that he lost his No. 6 to punter Brett Kern in an arm-wrestling match on Wednesday.

As Jim Wyatt briefly mentioned that night, but expanded on Thursday morning, the arm-wrestling match never happened.

The story took off. Blogs and web sites picked up on it. It was a hot topic on sports radio, and Twitter. It even received a mention on ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption.” By Wednesday night, Charlie Whitehurst was trending on Facebook.

The only problem: the two never arm-wrestled for the number. Whitehurst made the whole thing up.

It’s unclear why Whitehurst, who wore No. 6 during his first eight NFL seasons, would manufacture such a tale. He was ridiculed in several of the blogs for “losing” to a punter. He’s probably laughing about it all now, and the attention it received.

Can we just pretend Wyatt never released this info?
