Quotable Monday: Werner wants Mathis’ spot during suspension

Bjoern Werner will be entering his second year in the league, and he know wants to step up and take the place of All Pro Robert Mathis during his four game suspension.

“I prepare the same way before the whole situation with Robert came out, and I’ll keep preparing the same way,” Werner said. “I feel great, I’ve had a great offseason and just seize the moment. Hopefully I’m the guy, but that’s coach’s situation.”

After a dismal rookie year, Werner has been working all off season to finally live up to the hype that made him a first round draft pick in 2013 for the Colts. The transition to a 3-4 defense for the OLB has been tough to over come, but will his athleticism the coaching staff still believe he can live up to the hype.

Obviously Werner will have the first shot at replacing Mathis, and if that does not happen then he may never be able to live up to his potential. Good news for Colts fans is that there is still plenty of time between now and September 7 to find out who that man will be.
