According to Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons will be the featured team on HBO’s Hard Knocks this off season. For months now, many wondered if the Oakland Raiders would end up the focus of the popular show that lets fans behind closed doors for NFL training camps. Under the league rules, teams have exemptions from being on the show, but the Raiders were one of the few who had no exemptions available and thus could have been forced to be on the show if not one volunteered for the opportunity.
Luckily for the Raiders, the Falcons appear to have done just that.
The #Falcons volunteered for Hard Knocks, I’m told. They had an out, making the playoffs 2 years ago. They chose to be in.

Though some fans may be disappointed at not getting to see the Raiders training camp up close and personal, it is likely better for the team not to have the distraction. With an abundance of new players and lots of work to be done so that the team does not go 4-12 for a third straight season, even a minor distraction could be a big problem. And that was the exact reason many were worried that the NFL might choose the Raiders if no one else stepped up. After entering the off season with the most cap space of any NFL team, the Raiders went on to overhaul much of their roster. As such, not many training camps will have the amount of competition and close cuts the Raiders are likely to have. If you want drama, the Raiders training camp would have provided it.
