Top 5- Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing: the best quotes by Vince Lombardi

Yesterday was the birthday of arguably the greatest coach to ever coach in the NFL, Mr. Vince Lombardi. Lombardi wasn’t only a great coach, he had a way with words, and his words still live on today. Here are the top five quotes by Vince Lombardi:

5. “Winning is not a sometime thing, it’s an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time.”

4. “The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”

3. “There is no substitute for work.”

2. “Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

1. “Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.”

Ok I’m a Cowboy’s fan ever since there have been D. Cowboys so we don’t have to go any further regarding “Green Bay”. Having said that Vince Lombardi has got to be one of the most famous and respected coaches and “leaders” in professional football and the Super Bowl trophy is very appropriately named the Lombardi Trophy. Cowboy, Packers not so fond of the end results but they were great games.
“Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.” Damn near “perfect”.

Greatest response ever: Max McGee raises hand and asks the Coach to slow down as he starts taking notes (“this is a football”).

“That”s FIFTY BUCKS!!!”, (in response to McGee). The Old Man didn’t take any crap! Perhaps that discipline was his secret to six title games in eight years, winning five of them, and a 0.900 postseason record, (9-1).
