The Bears boast a high powered offense. They finished behind only the Denver Broncos in the NFL last season in points. 2014 figures to be an even more explosive year. Who are the candidates to lead the team in touchdowns? Here are the top five.
5. Running Back Ka’Deem Carey
Look for rookie Carey to handle the ball more than Michael Bush did last year. He is a touchdown machine going back to his days at Arizona and should get in the end zone quite a bit in the NFL. Carey can see anywhere from 5-7 touchdowns in his first year.
4. Tight End Martellus Bennett
For two straight seasons, Martellus Bennett has put up five touchdowns. This year he should get at least a few more. With teams paying more attention to Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, look for Bennett to get single coverage in the red zone and put together around eight touchdowns.
3. Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffery
Great season for Jeffery last year. He made tremendous strides from his rookie year and finished with seven touchdowns. This year he should have no problem hitting double digits. There just isn’t a corner who can contain or out jump Jeffery. His big hands make for an easy target and Jay Cutler will get him the ball.
2. Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall
Even with all the new weapons around him, Marshall still remains the number one option. He’s been very steady with 12 touchdowns last year and 11 the year before. He should figure to get the same amount again with another 12 touchdown season.
1. Running Back Matt Forte
Forte is the heart and soul of this offense. The Bears are a well oiled machine when he’s playing well and he will only build on last year’s outstanding season. Forte had a combined 12 touchdowns on the ground and in the air last year. He will likely increase both categories and could be a near 20 touchdown candidate. Can we say Fantasy Football!!!
