Jim Irsay to forgo first court hearing on OWI tomorrow

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay will not appear in court tomorrow for his first court hearing on the drug-related OWI arrest from last March.

WTHR out of Indianapolis confirmed early this afternoon that his attorneys filed a motion to waive his appearance. He faced misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, Irsay could face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 dollar fine, for each of his charges.

Irsay has always been an outspoken owner in the NFL, and his arrest has thrown him into the spotlight.

No punishment has come down from the league yet, but players will be watching closely to see if the punishment will be harsh enough, as some think he will get off easy because he is an owner, and not a player.

Irsay checked himself into rehab shortly after the arrest, and has since returned to the teams front office, stating he is constantly working on his addiction problems.
