The Colts wanted to add depth at the wide receiver position this offseason. Reggie Wayne is coming off a major injury, and it not getting younger, and besides T.Y. Hilton, the Colts were left with no solid three spot at the position.
The Colts signed free agent Hakeem Nicks, whom at times has shown he is an elite receiver in this league, and took wide receiver Donte Moncrief in the third round of this year’s NFL draft.
During day two of the Colts minicamp Wednesday, Moncrief was impressing everyone who watched him practice.
Several members of the media commented on a catch he had in double coverage while taking snaps with the first team.
Out here at practice, Donte Moncrief is having quite a day. Nice catch vs double coverage in red zone

Donte Moncrief makes a nice one-handed grab in a joust with Greg Toler. #Colts

Good signs from Moncrief early on are good news. He has admitted before that the transition to the NFL has been a fast one, and difficult. But with having Nicks, Wayne, and Hilton ahead of him, the Colts can afford to develop him at a slower pace.
Mocrief has the size, speed, and hands to develop into a solid receiver in the NFL, and with Luck the possibilities are endless. For now, it seems the Colts are setting up to have a dominant offense for the next several years with all the young talent they have surrounded Luck with.
