Terry Bradshaw loves talking.
Of course, he’s opinionated, and as a four-time Super Bowl winning quarterback, he knows a thing or two about football. Which is why he’s long been a talking head on FOX’s pregame, halftime and postgame shows.
Bradshaw, up on stage, recently called out Peyton Manning and drew an uproar of laughs:
“Peyton Manning, considered the best quarterback to play the game today. Nobody would argue with that — if you like winning good during the season and losing Super Bowls, that’s your guy,” said Bradshaw.
Look, Bradshaw isn’t the only one to think this; Manning’s infamously 1-2 in Super Bowls and has lost more postseason games (12) than any quarterback, while undisputedly being one of the greatest regular season quarterbacks to ever squeeze into a helmet.
Too much onus is placed squarely on quarterbacks’ shoulders. They’re almost always looked at as the hero or the goat. It wasn’t all Manning’s fault the Denver Broncos were blown out by the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII; he didn’t have enough time to throw, there was a lack of pass rush from Denver’s D and that opening play safety impacted the entire team mentally.
Still, if Manning can’t win another Super Bowl, the perception of him as a poor postseason player will continue to hang over his head. Which makes for some great motivation to win the big one this year, not that he needed more.
Oh, and don’t forget that Bradshaw has been critical of Broncos quarterbacks before. He once said of John Elway, “He’s not the kind of guy you win championships with. He never did it when he was at Stanford and I don’t think he’ll do it in Denver.”
