Top 5: Toughest quarterbacks on Denver Broncos schedule

The Denver Broncos 2014 schedule has plenty of tough games on it. The AFC West is improving and all four NFC West teams are on the slate.

A tougher schedule may better prepare the Broncos for the postseason but it won’t be easy to duplicate the 13-3 record of the previous two years.

Here are the five toughest quarterbacks on the schedule:

5. Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers

Kaepernick is a dual-threat that can cause havoc with his legs and arm. His passing game is developing and a huge array of weapons to throw to. He is getting better and just got a huge contract. The quarterback has been close to title and wants to get San Francisco over the hump.

4. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

Wilson is another dual-threat guy and, oh yeah, he is the quarterback of the defending Super Bowl champs. Wilson is a born leader and has shown that since he stepped on the field as a rookie two years ago. He also plays better at home and the Broncos will be making the trip to Seattle in Week 3.

3. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

The man who took over for Peyton Manning comes to Denver in Week 1. Luck won last season’s matchup in Indy. The quarterback is an up-and-coming star in the NFL and would love to take the Colts to the next level. A win over the Broncos and Manning at home would put the Colts on the right track.

2. Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

The dreaded Rivers will of course play the Broncos twice this season. The AFC West rival Chargers made the playoffs last season and gave the Broncos fits in all three meetings in 2013. Rivers always plays Denver well and really seems to succeed at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium. He is always a challenge for the defense.

1. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
The Broncos may have gotten the best of him in the AFC title game but no matter what, he is a tough matchup for the Denver defense. Brady led the 24-point comeback in the regular season last year and always seems to have big games against the Broncos. Denver travels to New England this year which only makes things more difficult.
