Johnny Manziel’s teammates show they have his back

As always, there’s more news regarding Johnny Manziel. This time, though, you’d be hard pressed to put a negative spin on it.

Mike Evans, the Tampa Buccaneers first round selection, was asked about his former quarterback at the NFL Rookie Symposium yesterday, and he couldn’t find enough good things to say about him.

“The NFL hasn’t seen anything like (Manziel). He’s a better passer than most people give him credit for and he can adapt,” said Evans, per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. “I think he’s the best quarterback prospect in this draft, and I think he’ll change the program.”

Evans even went on to compare Manziel to his current NFL teammates.

“He’s the smartest guy I’ve been around so far,” he said. “I haven’t been around the Bucs that much, but so far he’s the smartest guy.”

And as for Manziel’s extra-curricular activities, Evans had something to say about that too.

“He’s just under a bigger microscope,” said Evans. “Everybody does it. When he gets on the field, all of that will go to rest.”

Evans wasn’t the only one of Manziel’s teammates to speak up over the weekend, though. Star cornerback, Joe Haden, wanted to make sure he imparted a little bit of advice on his young quarterback.

“I just really think Johnny needs to maybe check his friends a little bit,” Haden told WKNR-AM. “Everybody’s going to go out, everybody’s going to have a good time, But you’ve got to make sure when you’re with your people it just doesn’t get out.

“You need to have a phone valet. Tell your friends ‘put your phones away. We’re going to go out and have a good time and just don’t record what you’re doing.’”

Now, Haden isn’t trying to scold Manziel. He understands that he’s just a unique case.

“Everybody has fun, trust me,” Haden said. “Everybody does. But everybody’s not Johnny Football. So I think you’re kind of like ‘C’mon Johnny, you represent. You’re going to have a good time for sure, nobody has a problem with it. But just try to have fun without the whole world knowing.’”

If you’re Manziel, I guess it’s good to know you’re teammates have your back. He just has to make sure he has theirs on the field, and all indications are that he will.

  • Old Time Brown

Oh yeah I forgot that when John Elway started with the Broncos he stunk up the house. It took him several years to learn how to win in the NFL and he never disrespected his teammates like Johnny Spoiled Brat has done. he forgets that he may think his stuff does not stink, but just wait until he faces a NFL team comes with an all out blitz and his O line remembers how he dished them. I am so looking forward to see him taken down a notch or two when a head hunter puts his sights on him during the season. Maybe if he was not such a arrogant arse we could learn to like him but he is a low life puke that belongs any place but Cleveland. More like Miami or NYC where being an arrogant arse is every day normal occurrence.
