In case you missed the news, Brandon Flowers is a San Diego Charger. Last week I made the suggestion that the Chargers should pursue the former Virginia Tech Hokie defensive back. And one week later, he’s a member of the team on a one-year contract.
According to Flowers himself, playing against his former team was one of the big reasons that he decided to trade in red and white for powder blue. Per an interview with Xtra 1360 AM, the new Charger defensive back clamored at the opportunity to face Kansas City.
“I never got the chance to play against an old team,” Flowers said. “Once I was on a team for my whole life, I was on that team for good. So just going back to play against some of the fellas and some of the coaches, it will definitely be fun.”
Brandon would go on to talk about how much he respected the Chiefs, as well as their fans, but as we have come to see in the past, his actions may draw a lot more from Kansas City fans than his words.
If anything but a more deep-seeded rivalry comes from this offseason transition, football fans should feel somewhat disappointed. The Chiefs and the Chargers already have a storied rivalry of their own dating back to the AFL. And with both teams building towards a promising future, this should provide for many more dramatics in the AFC West.
