Now that we are 10 weeks away from the opening weekend for the NFL season, I thought it would be a great time to unveil my bold predictions for the Arizona Cardinals in 2014…
1. Carson Palmer will make the Pro Bowl
In the final nine games of the 2013 season Palmer threw for 2,563 yards, 16 TD’s and 9 INT’s. If you take out his ugly performance against the league’s best defense on the road in Seattle under rainy conditions (in a win no less) and his stats looked like this:
2,385 yards, 15 TD’s, 5 INT’s, 66% completion percentage and a QB rating of 103.8
That is pretty darn good if you ask me. Add in the facts that Palmer is much more comfortable in the offense this season, as is Fitzgerald in playing all around the field, coupled with Palmer bevy of weapons with the addition of Ted Ginn Jr. and John Brown, and the possible emergence of Andre Ellington or Michael Floyd as a star and Palmer could be in for a very good season. This is still a very bold prediction though as he plays in a conference with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford among others at the position.
2. Justin Bethel will become a starter on defense
Bethel was a special teams Pro Bowler this past season and has elite speed and athleticism even by NFL defensive back standards. According to recent reports, he is starting to get his hands on more balls and become more of a defensive playmaker in the secondary during workouts. The Cardinals have some depth at corner with Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and Antonio Cromartie, and just drafted a strong safety in the first round, but Bethel is poised to make a leap forward as more of an every down player this season.
