In nearly three weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers will arrive at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA to begin their annual training camp.
With mini camps over, the team will get an in-depth look at who will best fit their team for the upcoming 2014 season. Here, we will take a look a five noteworthy players (in no particular order) to keep an eye on in July and August.
5 – Wesley Johnson – OL
Forever attempting to add depth to their offensive line, the Steelers added Wesley Johnson to their roster when they selected him in the later rounds of this years draft. One interesting skill set that he has will most certainly make him in a high prospect for a roster spot this year.
Johnson’s ability to play all five positions on the offensive line is invaluable to a line that has seen their ranks demoralized year in and year out due to injury. Having a player that can take up whatever position that may need addressed at the time would go a long way in making sure that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger receives all the protection he needs.
With a plethora of offensive linemen on the Steelers’ current roster, a large number of cuts that occur when the team is required to trim its roster down to 53 players, a number of released players will come from that position. Johnson will be up against the likes of Guy Whimper, Cody Wallace and Mike Adams during this year’s camp, and will be out to prove he has what it takes to potentially become a starter on Pittsburgh’s O-Line.
