Raiders Mailbag: Khalil Mack, Dennis Allen's job security and harassing my fellow blogger

Today is Wednesday which means it’s mailbag day! Check out some great questions about the Raiders below. And after that, you can take a look at how I harassed fellow cover32 blogger Tim Weaver (@TimWeaver84), who is the managing editor of the cover32 Seahawks (@cover32_SEA) page.

YES! Of course he will get more touches, he is one of the most underused weapons in the entire NFL. Though, let’s be honest here, I’ve been saying this for years, dating all of the way back to the Hue Jackson years. Marcel Reece is a matchup nightmare but he rarely gets used in that role. He has become a very good blocker which is primarily where the Raiders use him, but I cannot help but believe the entire offense would get better if they leaned more on number 45. Who knows, maybe Matt Schaub’s affinity for tight ends will extend to full backs and Reece will see more action.

I think it’s important to clarify what we are talking about here. I believe Khalil Mack will end up starting at the strong side linebacker position. But where he will play is an entirely different question all together. Defensive coordinator Jason Tarver earned the moniker of the “mad scientist” last year because of how creative he got with his blitz packages. It is that creativity that has led the Raiders to finding as many versatile players as possible and Mack is the perfect example. I believe we will see Mack playing at both outside linebacker positions and both defensive end positions at times this season and may even see him play in the middle linebacker spot. The guy is crazy versatile and Tarver will likely have fun forcing offenses to guess where he is coming from.

Kevin is one of our favorite readers (even though he talks about the Lakers and Dodgers way too much on Twitter), but even he misses things on cover32 from time to time. It’s understandable considering how much content we put on the site, but for Kevin and everyone else who missed it, I actually predicted that Mack would win the Rookie of the Year honors. In large part I believe his position as a linebacker gives him an advantage over Jadeveon Clowney. He will be in position to make more plays as a result and I think will be the Rookie of the Year.

I have been saying for a while that I think eight wins keeps Dennis Allen as the head coach of the Raiders for at least another year. That being said, depending on how things go, that could totally change. Having a 7-9 team who had a chance to win almost ever game may be more promising than a 9-7 team that got lucky along the way and really isn’t as good as the record suggests. While number of wins is clearly important, I think the eye test will also play a large role in Allen’s future.

OK, now that we’ve got the serious stuff out of the way, see why the cover32 Seahawks managing editor may never do a mailbag again.

Then something really special happened… other Raiders fans joined in the fun:

And then there were the reactions from Tim:
