Top 5: Reasons the New Orleans Saints are the best team in the NFC South

The NFC South is shaping up to be one of the better divisions in all of football, and certainly the team that takes the crown will be poised for a deep playoff run. Here are five reasons to believe the Saints are that team.

5.) They have the best quarterback

In a quarterback-driven league, you cannot overstate the importance of having a quality guy under center. Thankfully for Saints fans they have a future Hall of Famer. There’s little-to-no debate about who the best quarterback in the NFC South is, because regardless of Cam Newton’s bright future and Matt Ryan’s cool demeanor Drew Brees has the accolades and hardware to back up his claim.

4.) They have an established and experienced coaching staff

NFL coaches tend to receive too little of the glory and too much of the blame, however you need only look at the 2014 Super Bowl champs to see the importance a coaching staff has on a championship-caliber team. In 2012 Saints fans received a minor glimpse into life without Sean Payton, and it wasn’t pretty. Without Payton the Saints floundered to a disappointing losing record, and despite Payton’s offensive leanings they also became one of the worst defensive units in NFL history. It must be said that the NFC South is chalk-full with great coaches, although Payton is the only one with a Super Bowl victory (Lovie Smith came close with the Bears). Payton’s track record along with his connection to Drew Brees and the Saints offense makes him a huge asset within the division.
