Here at cover32 – New York Jets, we will bring you a preview of each position battle daily, leading up to the Jets training camp on July 23rd.
First on the list: Quarterbacks
Projected starter: Geno Smith
Projected back-up’s: Michael Vick, Tajh Boyd
Battling for roster spot: Matt Simms
All eyes are on: Geno Smith’s going into his second season as an NFL pro. He is, without question, the player to watch. Smith improved on and off the field this offseason, from what it looks like. Smith appeared on NFL Networks’ “Game Changers” and threw the ball well. Keep in mind that Smith went 8-8 in 2013, in a season filled with inconsitency at the wide receiver position. Just like last year, Smith threw to a number of different wide receivers on “Game Changers”. Watching Smith not miss a beat with new receivers that he was throwing to for the first time, was impressive. Smith will have much better weapons around him this year. His new receivers, backs, and tight ends will all play an integral part in his success as the Jets quarterback – and really the Jets offense for that matter.
