The 2014 NFL season is exactly six weeks away and we’re ramping up our speculation machine to full throttle here at cover32. If you’re curious to find out what will happen this year and don’t want to go through that whole messy business of waiting to find out, we’ve got you covered.
So dim the lights, turn your fog machine on and gaze into the crystal ball. Yoda said it best – the future is always in motion. Things could go well, and they could break bad. For now let’s take a look at the brighter side: here’s four hopeful headlines for the Atlanta Falcons 2014 season.
1. Matt Ryan wins the MVP
The four guys you hear about when the discussion is the “elite” quarterbacks of the NFL are Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Personally I don’t think Brady belongs in that conversation anymore and it’s time for some new blood to step in and take his place.
Enter Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who is consistently one of the most underrated at his position. A lot of people will complain that Tom Brady lost all his best receivers last season (Wes Welker to free agency, Rob Gronkowski to injury, Aaron Hernandez to thug life) and so you can’t really count his subpar 2013 numbers against him.
Well take a look at what Matt Ryan did last year despite missing Julio Jones most of the season and having a 60 percent Roddy White as his number one option: 4,515 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and a 67.4 completion percentage. Sorry Tom, but sometims the quarterback makes the receivers.
With healthy targets to throw at and a chip on his shoulder Matt Ryan should be in the conversation to win MVP in 2014.
