Julian Edelman has not only instilled himself as the top receiver in the Patriots offense, he has also made it clear that he is one of the biggest sports fans in the Boston area.
Seen regularly hitting up games across the city, Edelman is a huge Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics fan. But now, after driving the pace car around NASCAR’s Camping World RV Sales 301 Sprint Cup race in Loudon, N.H., everything else may be taking a backseat to racing.
“After coming here today and seeing this and the excitement and energy of the crowd and the people, it’s pretty insane,” Edelman told the Boston Globe. “It was a fun experience, but I’ll definitely be watching a lot more now, because I’m vested.”
It seems that he has also come to the realization that being hit by a safety coming across the middle does not even begin to compare to driving around a racetrack at speeds well above 100 miles per hour.
“I pretty much told myself that these dudes are certifiably crazy to be going that fast on that little ring—they’re studs,” said Edelman.
“They’re, for sure, athletes,” he continued. “It’s an endurance thing and they’re sitting in the car for three hours, going 200 miles per hour, you’ve got to be focused.”
