If you asked most people to predict who would win the NFC North they would probably answer the Green Bay Packers in a heartbeat. I get it. It makes sense. Green Bay has won the division the last three years and have maybe the best quarterback in the league leading them in Aaron Rodgers.
Others might answer that the Chicago Bears will take it. Their new offense is an impressive thing to behold and with another year learning Marc Trestman’s playbook they could be even more formidable this year.
Some might even say that the Minnesota Vikings would do it. They have a new head coach, a young new quarterback and a healthy Greg Jennings at wide receiver now.
Very few people, if any, would say that the Detroit Lions would win the NFC North. But former linebacker Antonio Pierce is one of them. Yesterday on Sportscenter he did just that:

Pierce never played for the Lions so it’s not a homer kind of comment you might expect from a former player. Maybe he was just trolling the audience to get a reaction, but maybe he actually believes that Detroit has a shot.
It’s not out of the ream of possibility. The Lions looked to have the division locked up last year before they imploded late in the season. Now they have added several new weapons on offense, including wide receiver Golden Tate and rookie tight end Eric Ebron. Never before has Calvin Johnson had so many other playmakers on the field with him, which should open up the passing game a great deal. If they can limit their mistakes the Lions might be a legitimate threat to win the NFC North.
Then again the last time the Lions won the division was 1993. What do you think? Is Pierce onto something here or is he just crazy?
