Training camp preview: Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson to elevate defense

Projected Starters:
SS – Mark Barron
FS – Dashon Goldson

Reserves: Major Wright, Kelcie McCray, Keith Tandy, Brad McDougald,

No real shake up for the Buccaneers here. Safeties Mark Barron and Dashon Goldson are the starters for the revamped Tampa Bay squad.

Tampa Bay fans should keep an eye on newly acquired safety Major Wright. Wright started 42 games over the last four years in Chicago, putting up solid numbers. Wright signed a one-year contract worth $795,000.

Training camp and the preseason will showcase the talents of Kelcie McCray, Bran McDougald and Keith Tandy during their fight to impress coaches for a shot at earning a position on the depth chart.

The Buccaneers solidified themselves as a defensive team after agreeing to terms with head coach Lovie Smith. Smith has an all-pro linebacker and defensive tackle to work with, all that’s left, is a ball-hawking secondary. Barron and Goldson may just be the duo that will ensure a top five defense.
