Jeremy Maclin shuts down social media for training camp

When you’re a professional athlete distractions from your work can be endless. With millions of dollars at your disposal and legions of admirers everywhere you go, it can be very easy to lose your edge. Rumor has it that the Denver Broncos were out partying hard in New York during Super bowl week. That didn’t work out so well for them.

One thing that you can do to tune it all out is staying off social media. That’s exactly what Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin plans to do. Last night Maclin sent out this tweet:

So we should expect not to hear from him again until the regular season begins, at least in the Twittersphere. Whether or not that will actually help Maclin focus during training camp I have no idea, but speaking as a hopeless Twitter addict it can’t hurt.

Philly will need Maclin to be at the top of his game in 2014 if they’re going to compensate for the loss of DeSean Jackson, who led the team in receiving yards by a wide margin last season. Jackson had nearly 500 more receiving yards than anybody else.

The last time we saw Maclin was the 2012 season, when he led the team with 69 receptions and seven touchdowns.
