Another 49er running back goes down at training camp (Update: Dislocated elbow)

UPDATED 5:00 p.m. Sunday

James has dislocated his left elbow during training camp Sunday.

James is only missing a month of football unless he has another set back. Hyde’s importance as a backup running back has just skyrocketed in the past two days.

The biggest question, other than the backup running back situation, is who will be the next returner?

The season begins for the 49ers September 7 against the Dallas Cowboys. Preseason begins August 7 against the Baltimore Ravens.

At training camp on Sunday, running back LaMichael James was carted off the field with an apparent arm/wrist injury.

Two days after running back Kendall Hunter tore his ACL at camp, another backup running back goes down.

This now leaves running back Carlos Hyde as the backup to Frank Gore until James returns if his injury is not serious.

In two years with the 49ers, James has carried the ball a total 39 times for 184 yards. As a returner, James has an average punt return of 10.9 yards and 28.4 yards on kick returns, according to Pro-Football-Reference.
