Pittsburgh Steelers complete first weekend of training camp—what did you miss?

The Pittsburgh Steelers opened camp this past weekend and already there has been a lot of news coming out of Latrobe, PA.

Rookie Dri Archer is playing all over the field

Speedster Dri Archer, the Steelers third round pick, is showing his versatility by playing wherever the Steelers need him.

The rookie has lined up at running back, receiver and special teams where his speed and willingness is impressing everyone.

“Whatever they need me to do, I am here to help the team any way possible,” said Archer. “I like the ball in my hands. I am a guy that likes to make things happen.”

Maurkice Pouncey shows up in style amid assault allegations

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey showed up to camp in what can only be described as an amazing outfit.

Pouncey, who is currently under investigation for alleged assault at a Miami nightclub the other week, said of the allegations, “You know every time I ever made a mistake in my NFL career I admitted to it. For something like this to happen, and to have no total involvement in it, is upsetting and hurtful to me. You know it’s on my mind like crazy and hopefully it blows over.”

Free agent signee Mike Mitchell enters camp on PUP list

Steelers safety Mike Mitchell, an offseason free agent signee, was brought in to take over for long-time Steelers great Ryan Clark who signed with Washington after the Steelers failed to make an offer.

Mitchell, 27, has a nagging groin injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin says that Mitchell could return at any time.

Sophomore WR Markus Wheaton is prepared to compete for #2 WR spot

Steelers WR Markus Wheaton has trouble staying on the field in 2013, but hopes to remind everyone why he was a third round pick in 2013.

“I think there is pressure for anybody,” Wheaton said, “whether you are vet who has been here for a long you still have something to prove. Whether you are a rookie or an undrafted free agent you have a lot to prove to earn a spot.”

Wheaton hopes to play alongside starter Antonio Brown, but has lots of competition as camp opens.
