Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs missed half of the 2013 season with a shoulder injury suffered against the Redskins. Prior to that Briggs had been an extremely reliable player. Over the previous 10 years he missed just four regular season games.
Now Briggs is healthy and will be ready to take the lead as a defensive captain once again. He is very excited to get back on the field and recently told the Sun-Times that he plans on retiring a Bear:
“I’m not even thinking about it (my contract), honestly … I could never retire anything else but a Bear. I’m a Bear, you know? Chicago . . . it’s kind of like football to me. When I was a little kid, I started playing football and fell in love with it. It’s my first love.”
With Brian Urlacher gone Briggs is now the elder statesman of the team. To help get you hyped for the 2014 season, let’s take a look at one of my favorite plays of Briggs’ career.
Here he is, blowing up Calvin Johnson in gif form, over and over and over again.
