Indianapolis Colts add depth at running back

The Indianapolis Colts might have had the day off from practice, but the front office made some moves.Ryan Grigson did not make a blockbuster trade when Vick Ballard was lost for the season (torn Achelles).Unlike last year when he made the move for Trent Richardson, instead he opted to add depth behind Richardson. Today the Colts added Phillip Tanner, formerly with the Dallas Cowboys.

The former Cowboy running back played the last three seasons with the Cowboys, and totaled 56 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns. He was primarily a special teams player, something the Colts will value when looking for another running back to put behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw. He was an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State University in 2011, where he had over 2,000 yards and 33 touchdowns in his career.

The Colts also added depth at linebacker today, as they signed Jonathon Shape from North Greenville University. Sharpe is an undrafted free agent, who will try to compete for a spot to earn special teams playing time. He finished his career at Greenville as a two year starter where he amassed 132 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and three interceptions.
