Two Baltimore Ravens rookie defensive linemen hurt on one play, one carted off field

UPDATE: Brent Urban has torn his ACL and will be placed on injured reserve. Jernigan is expected to play in the Ravens first preseason game August 7.

This is disconcerting.

Both Timmy Jernigan and Brent Urban needed to be helped off the field on the same play when the lines were running drills against each other.

Reportedly, Urban’s injury appears to be more serious as he was carted off the field.  It is his right knee.

Jernigan has injured his back, and walked off the field under his own power.

Urban was viewed as more of a developmental player, however at his size, could have proved useful in many facets. Not to mention the hit his development would take if forced to sit out a year.

Jernigan was one of the most impressive players thus far in camp, and has shown a surprising explosiveness in getting into the backfield.  A back injury can be a nagging ailment, and if it is at all serious, he would be forced out of action.

In any case, the defensive line depth that Dean Pees recently called the best since 2010, took a significant hit.  Hopefully the effects of this incident aren’t long lasting.
