Camp Summary: Wide receivers shine for the New Orleans Saints

Thursday saw the wide receivers take over team drills, with guys like Brandin Cooks, Nick Toon, and Marques Colston (of course) looking very sharp.

Cooks has been the talk of the camp so far, and if you’ve read any of our other Camp Summaries you know he’s been one of the guys we’ve been most impressed with. He’s showing the burst and quickness necessary to separate from NFL defensive backs, and the crisp route running and understanding of the offense you need in Sean Payton’s system. His hands are all they were talked up to be and more, making him one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets so far.

As for Colston, he looks like his typical dominant self. He did mention that he feels healthier this year than he has in year’s past, which is a scary thought for NFC South defenses.

Toon made the play of the day, going deep and splitting two defensive backs to make a tough catch.

So it looks like a position that was a definite weak spot going into the offseason has become a potential strength for the Saints so far in Training Camp.
