Oxnard, CA – Jason Garrett touched on a few topics this afternoon before the Cowboys took practice. A couple of highlights below:
Garrett spoke of Romo not participating in today’s practice after the media nearly lost their damn heads over the matter. Garrett said Tony would be held out today in order to give him a little rest to ensure his availability in tomorrow’s annual Blue & White Scrimmage. Tony Romo’s Backgate was in full swing on Twitter and throughout the world, needless to say Prozac is in order for the Dallas Media this Saturday afternoon.
Garrett spoke in length of McClain and of how impressed he’s been with him thus far. “I’ve liked what he’s done so far. He’s in shape. Easy to see why he was a Top 10 pick.” Garrett said. He’s still go a little while to go in Garrett’s mind but has been looking the part thus far in Training Camp. I know of quite a few folks pulling for him to win the job over Durant and Holloman.
The interesting more winded conversation was centered around the recovery of Anthony Spencer. Garrett believes that he is ahead of schedule but would still like to remain cautious with the former 1st round pick. Spencer has been adamant about playing in the season opener, though it is currently too early to tell. Garrett also spoke at length about how he believes that Spencer will be very comfortable at his natural position on 4-3 DE. He even went as far as to say that Spencer’s tape is what Marinelli uses in the “rush-room”. “He plays with a great demeanor and great competitive spirit.” Garrett added. I know a lot of fans can’t wait for the return of 93 after his last time out earned him a Pro-Bowl.
As mentioned before the annual Blue & White Scrimmage will take place tomorrow and will be televised on DallasCowboys.com at 4:30 PM central time. Garrett said that the veterans will be mainly focused on situation-drills whilst the young guns will get a lot of playing time.
