The Oakland Raiders are entering the 2014 NFL season as an almost entirely different team than the one which took the field in 2013. Which, by the way, was an almost entirely different team than the one which took the field in 2012. Which, by the way, was an almost entirely different team than the one which took the field in 2011.
See the trend?
Much like the past few years, the Raiders start the year with a team of largely unknown quality. There is a lot to be excited about, but much of that excitement is based on potential and overcoming a lot of big “ifs”. If he stays healthy. If he can bounce back from a bad year. If he still has some gas in the tank. If he can play well in that new position. If he lives up to his draft status.
If so, then oh boy do the Raiders’ opponents have some surprises in store for them. But if not, it could be another long year for the Raider Nation.
With this in mind, I began thinking about the team position group by position group trying to figure out which ones I actually felt confident in. After going through the team as a whole, I found that there were simply too many question marks at almost every position to feel 100% confident in any of them.
The position groups that I am fairly confident in and which came closest to that 100% confidence marker were linebackers, offensive line and to a lesser degree, safety and wide receiver. So let’s take a closer look at each of those position groups.
