Tomorrow night the Baltimore Ravens will open their pre-season schedule by playing a familiar foe: the San Francisco 49ers. Despite playing in different conferences, the two teams have a connection on a number of levels. Head coaches Jim and John Harbaugh are brothers from a royal football family.
They met in Super bowl XLVII and played one of the more thrilling games we have seen in recent years.
The most exciting play of the game may have come in the opening moments of the second half, when Ravens wide receiver Jacboy Jones ran a kickoff back a record 109 yards for a touchdown. Have a look:
After the PAT the Ravens led 28-6 and it appeared that the game was over. The 49ers stormed back and nearly rallied to a win, but a goal line stand by Baltimore sealed the deal.
No play can have a bigger impact on the game than a kick or punt return. The momentum can shift from one team to another in a matter of seconds, or the outcome can be sealed. It wasn’t the first time that Jones ran one back, and I doubt that it will be the last. Here are the top kick returns of Jones’ career:
I think I’m officially ready for football.
