Roster trimming begins: Who missed the cut for the Houston Texans?

If you listened to last night’s Sunday Night Football broadcast on NBC you probably heard Chris Collinsworth say on a number of occasions that this is the hardest time of the year for NFL coaches. He wasn’t referring to injuries or the preseason schedule; he was talking about roster cuts.

By 4:00 eastern time tomorrow each NFL team must cut their rosters from 90 players down to 75, but today the Houston Texans got a head start and announced nine cuts from the team. Here is a complete list of the players who got the bad news this morning:

OL: Sam Longo

RB: William Powell

WR: Joe Adams, Alec Lemons

DT: Austin Brown, David Hunter

LB: Terrence Lloyd, Lawrence Sidbury

CB: Junior Mertile

On Saturday the Texans must shave their roster number down to 53, plus ten guys for the practice squad.
