Oakland Raiders add depth at defensive end with Benson Mayowa

Before their final preseason game of the year, I discussed how the Oakland Raiders should consider themselves lucky to be playing against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. The reason I said they were lucky was because of the fact that they would have a chance to get a good long look at guys who were likely to be cut by the Seahawks. The hope being that the Raiders could spot the guys who were cut not because of a lack of talent, but rather, because of the numbers crunch.

The Seahawks are a very deep team, especially along the defensive line, and as a result it was likely they would release an NFL caliber talent simply because they did not have enough roster spots to keep him. If so, the Raiders would be able to recognize that player, hopefully while the rest of the NFL is ignorant to his talent. And now that the roster cuts have been completed, it looks like the Raiders may have done just that, signing defensive end Benson Mayowa after he was cut by the Seahawks.

Since we have not had a chance to really follow Mayowa as he tried to make the team, here is what the editor of the cover32 Seahawks blog had to say about the young talent:

To make room for Mayowa, the Raiders released Kaelin Burnett.
