The Detroit Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving Day, the holiday that if you play for Detroit or work for the organization, will be a holiday that you do not have the luxury of being off from work.

Except for a six year sabbatical during World War two, the Lions have played host on the holiday since 1934, with the game originally serving as a way to market the leather helmet wearing team during a time when college football ruled the sport. For instance, the year 1934 was the year that the 20th Rose Bowl already took place and was far more received for a slow dull 7-0 Colombia victory over Stanford than a professional football game.

When I found out about that stretch of years I was rather surprised. My parents were not born until the early 1940’s. To put it in to perspective this was five years before The Wizard of Oz Was Released in theaters. Shirley Temple starred in her first motion picture that year as Donald Duck makes his first appearance in a cartoon.

”Negative Stanley” was just a tiny little” negative” toddler. Alcatraz officially becomes a federal prison in that pre-World War Two time in history. Bonnie and Clyde killed two police officers beginning their Natural Born Killers legendary way of life.

This all makes the Buffalo Bills Playoff drought not seem quite as long.

Although the Bills lost the one Thanksgiving day game I have been too in Detroit, it was an absolute pleasure to spend that great long weekend with friends at a holiday tradition in Detroit.

I hope you and yours had a fantastic Thanksgiving wherever you may have been and spending it with those you hold close to the heart in your life. That being said….

Things we know this week about the Buffalo Bills

Sammy Watkins has been added to the roster and if warm ups treat him well, expect to see the talented wide receiver at least get some amount of playing time.

Rex Ryan made it known that Shaq Lawson will be getting more playing time now that he has some sacks and downs under his belt. This will hopefully prevent Rex from having to overplay Lorenzo Alexander who has been out there doing pretty much anything and everything.

Ryan Groy will be starting at center in place of Eric Wood for the second consecutive game. He played under offensive line coach Eric Kraemer in Chicago as well as Buffalo, so he is very familiar with the technique.

Hopefully the Bills can avenge last season’s loss to Jacksonville in London. If not for the playoff race or your own pride as players, then win for the fans like me who traveled over a rather large pond last October to cheer you on.

Mike Gillislee is ruled out for this game. So we all hope that LeSean McCoy coming off surgery on a dislocated thumb is ready to go play some ground and pound ball.

Robert Woods will be missed. He has been brilliant at times in Watkins absence.
