Unless something major changes in the coming weeks, Tyrod Taylor and the Buffalo Bills will no longer be a couple come the start of free agency. With Taylor not willing to accept a restructured contract to remain with the Buffalo Bills, the team could be looking for a new starting quarterback as we head into the 2017 season.
While the current free agent quarterback class is weak outside of Kirk Cousins — if he’s not franchise tagged that is — the class could get a bit of an upgrade with some expected releases. With teams around the NFL cutting dead weight and reducing their salary cap for the upcoming free agency period, a few talented quarterbacks could become options for the Buffalo Bills.

The biggest names of these releases will likely be Chicago’s Jay Cutler, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo, and San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick. While all three have their issues, each are better options than players currently in the free agent class. Of note, these players are not long term solutions for the Bills. The team will need to draft a rookie quarterback to develop while these stopgap options keep the team afloat.
While it was thought originally that Tony Romo would be traded by the Cowboys, it is now likely that he will be released due to the size of his current contract. Consistently facing injury problems, Romo is someone that carries a lot of risk. However, if he finds a way to stay healthy, Romo is someone that could deliver a solid season or two for the Bills.
Jay Cutler on the other hand has a whole other set of issues. Possessing all the physical attributes, Cutler has become a sort of nutcase when it comes to his mental game. Moving to a new team could be just what the doctor ordered for him as it allows Cutler to have a new start in a new city with new teammates.
The final player I could see the Buffalo Bills potentially signing is Colin Kaepernick. While Kaepernick would bring with him an amazing amount of bad vibes given the way some fans feel about him, he is someone that compares favorably to Tyrod Taylor. If the Bills wanted to keep some consistency in style of play, Kaepernick could be an option.
