Our Washington Redskins and head coach Jay Gruden agreed on a two year contract extension. This shows they believe the team is going in the right direction. Most of us loyal Redskins fans do also. This contract extension will give us consistency at head coach and I believe it will make a difference in the Kirk Cousins negotiations going on regarding Cousins contract. Signing Kirk Cousins will give us consistency at the quarterback position and help our 2017 Washington Redskins regain the NFC East Division.

I am not ready to put Jay Gruden on the same level as Joe Gibbs, but I do believe Gruden is a winner, works hard, is dedicated to one goal, a Super Bowl Victory. He is a man of good character and highly intelligent. His strong point is he is a very good offensive coordinator himself. My only constructive criticism with his “system” is he does not carry a fullback on his offense and does not run the ball as much. That results in not enough balance and it will hurt when the weather and field are bad. Besides, its running the ball is in our Redskins DNA. NFC East reputation.

Divisions have age old reputations. When the NFC North played outside in the old days, they were known as the tough “black and blue division”. Bruising defenses, nasty cold weather, Tough guys like Alan Page of the Vikings Purple Gang, Dick Butkus of the Bears, Well, our NFC East Division was known for running the damn ball down your throat. Smashmouth football at this best. John Riggins running behind the “Hogs” to set up safe passes. Lombardi’s and George Allen’s offenses had good fullbacks blocking for Larry Brown, making him the NFL leading rusher.

So. yes I am happy we are keeping Jay Gruden and I have faith his offense will have the talent to average over 30 points a game. I just want to see some slobber-knocking blocks, ┬árunning plays and “pounding that rock” and dominating the line of scrimmage. In my opinion a true fullback is better than using a tight-end to block for the ball carrier. That will make Gruden’s offense even more dangerous, unpredictable, and help win the time of possession battle. Running the ball wears down the defense and you can see that affect in the 4th quarter with defenders sucking air and hands on hips, moving slowly, missing tackles, Fatigue make cowards out of players.

Congratulations to head coach Jay Gruden and I hope soon after this article, our elite quarterback Kirk Cousins will have a long term contract with our team. ┬áI do feel that since we picked our new OC, offensive coordinator, from the ranks, from within, our offense will not have any setbacks. In fact, I believe we will see our team run the ball more and better red-zone efficiency. Watch for more rushing touchdowns including our quarterback Cousins himself rushing for touchdowns. Jay Gruden and Kirk Cousins are winners. They make a good pair, like William Stephen “Bill” Belichick and Tom Brady.

Our 2015 and 2016 Washington Redskins were really playoff caliber teams but not “Championship level” lacking a better defense and better play-calling. The 2016 team gave away at least 4 games and should have been in the playoffs. In 2017, we have a different defensive coordinator (DC) and hopefully if he does a better job and our GM Scot McCloughan gets us a few good defensive players in the forthcoming 2017 NFL Draft, we should win the NFC East Division. Back in the playoffs again. We will have to wait and see if our Redskins have taken that “next step” and become a Championship level team. HAIL HTTR.
