Will Jeff Locke be able to replace Pat McAfee?

Jeff Locke has some major shoes to fill in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts signed Jeff Locke today in hopes of trying to replace All-Pro punter Pat McAfee.

Chris Ballard signed Locke this afternoon to solve the Colts vacancy at the punter position. And Locke has some MAJOR shoes to fill.

McAfee was more than just a punter, as he was a leader in the locker room and in the community. And another big not that people tend to forget is that McAfee handled all of the kickoff duties.

There was not a better kicker in the league when it comes to kicking off. Pat’s leg was a cannon, and he landed touchbacks on 53 percent on his 659 career kickoffs.

Compare that to Locke, who has just 6 career kickoffs resulting in just one touchback. A small sample for the four year pro.

Can Locke handle those duties? He will have to, because Adam Vinatieri (44) will not be strutting out to handle kickoffs.

While Locke will never be able to replace Pat, he will certainly have to expand his role. Or he will find himself as a free agent yet again.
