Friday’s Rambling: The week that was for the Buffalo Bills

Rambling some on Friday morning, we take a look back at the week that was for the Buffalo Bills.

Starting off with the Buffalo Bills for my Friday Ramblings pieces tonight, I feel it’s a good time to listen to some Sam Hunt. While some fans of country music don’t like him — truthfully, I think he’s more 90’s or early 2000’s era pop than country myself — he does have one song that really should ring true for fans of the Buffalo Bills.

The song that really catches that feeling tonight is his 2015 hit, “Break Up In a Small Town.” Specifically, I am feeling the Stephon Gilmore to the New England Patriots signing. As Sam says, “I never thought she — this case he — would get down, with somebody I know, I guess that’s just how it goes, when you break up in a small town.”

Bills News: Gilmore to the Patriots spells trouble for Buffalo

For me, it is extremely sobering to know another former member of the Buffalo Bills will be signing with the rival Patriots. While Gilmore was an inconsistent player this past season, how many times have we seen former players go to New England and become superstars due to the team’s coaching.

Honestly, I’m not even that upset about the Buffalo Bills parting ways with Gilmore. The relationship was fractured and a return to Buffalo at this point las10t week was already off of the table. That said, a player with his talent could have gone anywhere. Why did he have to “get down with somebody I know” in the form of the hated Patriots. I mean seriously.

Also joining Gilmore in leaving Orchard Park this offseason was a pair of wide receivers in Marquise Goodwin and Robert Woods. While Goodwin’s departure doesn’t really bother me, I am really bummed at the fact that Woods is leaving. The man was just beginning to prove himself and looked to have a bright future ahead of him in Buffalo.

With Buffalo not making any major free agent moves as of yet, only time will tell how much these moves hurt the team going forward. Hopefully, with the right pickups and draft picks, they won’t effect the team at all. That said, I think the history of this team since the turn of the century speaks for itself. As the image for this article says, Playoff Bound One Year. Who knows when that will be though.
