On cover32’s exclusive Packers Twitter page, @cover32_GB, a poll was conducted to asking fans what the team should use their first round draft pick on.
Draft season is well upon the sports world. As experts and bloggers gather up numerous mock drafts, and fans all over the globe react.
However, the group that is lacking a voice is none other than the fans. Perhaps the most passionate entity in the sports atmosphere.
This Week in NFL History: A look back through some of the biggest moments in football during April 9th-15th
On Twitter, cover32 and fans of Packers weighed in on what the team should use their first round pick on. With nearly half voting for the secondary.
This does not come as a huge surprise as the team’s team defense was nothing short of depleted by the end of last season with injuries.
Set injuries aside, this is still an area of weakness as the team lacks any real studs back there. However, former Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has shown signs of promise.
Clinton-Dix was named the Pro Bowl last season. As for his help, he is a lone wolf.
Morgan Burnett looks to be the safety opposite of him next season, but injuries have derailed his play the past few seasons.
The cornerback position includes players such as Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, and LaDarius Gunter who all dealt with injuries last season. But even when on the field, they were nothing more than average.
If the Packers elect to listen to the fan base and go secondary in the first round, they will have a plethora of options.
Marshon Lattimore, the corner out of Ohio State, looks like the clear cut top secondary player in this upcoming draft; however, barring a trade, he will off the board for the Packers.
Realistic options for the team would be Obi Melifonwu, Tre’Davious White, Kevin King who would all be key additions to Green Bay.
It is no guarantee they will even draft in this area. Many experts have predicted them to go in all sorts of directions.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper has them taking running back Dalvin Cook, another major area of need for the team.
The defensive line is another option, after key losses in the free agency period.
One thing is safe to say, the cover32 cheeseheads want to see help the secondary.
