As optimistic as I try to be, lately I find myself sarcastically tapping the spot on my wrist where a watch might be, and peering over the top of my glasses at the late season of Spring. What gives, Spring? I had to scrape ice this week! Come out of hiding already! That being said, here’s a look at some fun things going on for your Seattle weekend.
This would be a great weekend to get out to a Mariners game! They are facing off against the Texas Rangers Friday at 7:10pm, Saturday at 6:10pm, and Sunday at 1:10pm. A peek at the weather report makes me think they might just have the roof open. Come out and soak in some badly needed vitamin D. And also maybe the home team will pull off a victory.
Peddler Brewing Company in Ballard is hosting an acronym battle Friday night 7:30-9:30 open to anyone with a frontal lobe capable of thinking this way. There will be three rounds in successive three-letter, four-letter, and five-letter challenges. I know a few folks that would do pretty well in a competition like this, and I’d bet you do to. We all have A.L.F. (acronym loving friends) in our lives, bring them out for the competition, winner drinks for free!

The group 4Twenty will be performing mini musicals and plays as well as showing short films intended to “examine, celebrate, demystify, and normalize” marijuana consumption and it’s effects. Featuring plays by Joe Derr (Bromancing the Stone), Roger Neale (Do Canaries Get High?), a musical by Joe Fox and John Paul Sharp, and many more. You can find this at Theater 4 in the Seattle Center House, tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Starting this Friday 4/14 and running through 4/22.
I don’t know if I could get through writing a “what’s happening” column without a beer tasting festival. This particular column is no exception. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Seattle Scotch and Beer Fest at Fremont Studios happening Friday starting at 5 and Saturday starting at 1. Tickets will run you $30-$70 with plenty of ticketing options. Come sample some damn beer (again)!
One of my favorite place for dinner in Seattle is The Whale Wins. I love everything about that place, from the decor, to the waitstaff, to the amazing menu. You can’t possibly go wrong eating there. This Saturday they are kicking off their first ever brunch menu. Rumors are circulating that braised pork belly might be found on that menu. Also, they are making a run at dethroning avocado toast as the hipster standard in Seattle, and replacing it with “Sea Wolf Toast” featuring ricotta, asparagus, and chili oil.
There are many places around the city featuring some variation of Easter brunch and/or egg hunting. I’m only going to give you info in the one I am most likely to actually attend, The 4th Annual Pickled Egg Eating Contest at Bar Sue on Capitol Hill. Entrance to the event is free, and it is said there will be “prizes”. I think I could really be a contender in a contest like this, I once ate the twelve-egg omelette at The Hurricane before they closed down. Granted, I was in my 20’s, but I still think I could put away a serious volume of eggs. You might find me there…
