Early Sunday Morning Houston Texans running back D’Onta Foreman was arrested in Austin, Texas. The University of Texas police department responded to a call in regards to the “smell of maruijana”.

D’Onta Foreman is one of seven individuals placed under arrest early Sunday morning. According to jail records, Foreman is being charged with marijuana possession of two ounces or less and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The unlawful carrying of a weapon has a $3,500 bond while the drug charges carry a $1000 bond. The arrest occurred near a residence hall on the University of Texas campus. The six other individuals are no longer in police custody.

Foreman’s arrest is going to drastically change the Texans’ plans moving forward. This is due to the murky future of the backfield. Incumbent starter Lamar Miller has the starting job locked down for at least the next season, however backup Alfred Blue is now a candidate to stick around.

Blue was potentially facing the chopping block after the selection of Foreman in the draft. As a result of Foreman’s arrest, Blue is going to stick around this season. A suspension has not been announced yet, but is expected in the coming days.

The suspension Foreman is going to receive has the chance to be more severe than most. The inclusion of the weapons charge adds another dimension to his suspension and the effect it will have on the Texans.

The resulting suspension will impact the Texans greatly. Foreman is going to enter the NFL’s drug program. This is a given. The impact will include the contributions of Foreman on the season as long who stays on the roster. The aforementioned Alfred Blue is now likely to remain in Houston. Lamar Miller is going to need a backup and now it is Blue.

If Miller suffers an injury, Blue would be the starter. This is because of Foreman’s suspension. Blue is not capable of being the lead back in Houston. This is why Miller is now in Houston. This is why Houston drafts Foreman. To solidify the running game.

A legal issue is the last thing the Texans need with one of their rookies. Houston is a team trying to make a run for the playoffs. A productive running game will help the uncertain quarterback situation. The running game needs all of the eligible players to perform at the highest level. Foreman’s suspension will not allow him to be available to contribute when they need him most. His suspension could cost the Texans later on in the season.
