Roster Spots: Who Will Be In A Redskins Jersey Come September 10

The Washington Redskins begin their 2017 regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles.

As July comes to an end, Richmond, Virginia becomes a very popular place for Burgundy and Gold fans.  You hear the coolers being filled up and air being pumped into the footballs from Leigh Street. Hotels are being booked up with media types covering the team and fans alike from every part of Maryland, Virginia and DC.

July 27 marks the first day of training camp, with fans looking on curiously wondering who will make the final 53-man roster.

I would like give a few sleepers and surprises that will or won’t make the team (in my personal opinion).

Offense – 25

Defense – 25

Special Teams – 3

Offense Surprises: In’s

TE Jeremy Sprinkle: Fifth-round pick out of Arkansas I think will give Niles Paul a run for his roster spot and will show Derek Carrier the door.

WR Brian Quick: A surprise to some as this would push Harris or Grant off the roster.

Offense Surprises: Out’s

RB Matt Jones: SURPRISE, SURPRISE! Sarcasm at its finest! With his high number of fumbles and his lack of desire to play (at least for the Redskins) a safe bet is Matt Jones won’t make it pass the first set of cuts this year, so he could possibly land on another team.

OG Shawn Lauvao: One of the weakest links of Hogs 2.0, his mediocre play and a cap number around $4.5 million that should be going to his counterpart on the other side of the offense line – barring injuries to a very solid line or a restructuring of his current deal – could make him a casualty.

Defense Surprises: In’s

DB Will Blackmon: Veteran leadership within the secondary only second to DHall, Blackmon has a very small cap hit if cut and at age 32 he is still playing at a high level.

NT Phil Taylor: Former Pittsburgh Steeler, if he can somehow resurrect his career pre-2014 then he will no doubt make the team next to rookie Jonathan Allen.

Defense Surprises: Out’s

DB DeAngelo Hall: With a $3.1 million cap hit this season… Who are we kidding? The money doesn’t matter with DHall. It all depends on how he responds coming off the ACL injury. If he can’t play at a high level in pre-season, he might just call it a career.

DL Ziggy Hood/ Stacy McGee:

They just feel like camp fodder and leftovers signed on pure experience and may be here or not depending on injury.
