The Saints will waive Dannell Ellerbe when he gets off IR. The Saints acquired Ellerbe via trade with the dolphins. The Saints sent wide out Kenny Stills to Miami and in return the Saints acquired Ellerbe and a 3rd round pick. Ellerbe has spent 2 years with the Saints, his first year he appeared in 6 games and totalled 39 tackles. This season he appeared in 9 games and had 44 tackles and an impressive 4 sacks. When Ellerbe was available this season he was very productive but it wasn’t often when he was available.

Ellerbe has played 8 seasons and is yet finish a whole season. His best performance was 2013 with the Miami Dolphins were he exploded with 101 tackles in 15 games then only to appear in 1 game the following season. Overall Ellerbe has been a very successful linebacker in the NFL, when he is in and that happens to be not very often. For Ellerbe it’s been multiple small injuries that re occur, very frustrating for himself personally and the coaches. Sean Payton explained that the decision to wave Ellerbe came down to availability.

Ellerbe is currently on IR and once he comes IR the Saints will release him. Ian Rapoport tweeted out he will be a very hot free agent when he hits free agency. Ellerbe could be a very good back up, it seems like the role of a starter takes to much of a toll on his body and a back up spot for him would be perfect.

Ellerbe won a Superbowl with the Ravens against in the 49ers, ironically in the superdome. He spent 4 years in Baltimore and 2 years in Miami and New Orleans, where do you see Ellerbe going next?
