Titans fans look at the Jets

Over the years, the Jets have always found a way to struggle. This season looks to be one of their worst since they were 1-15. The Jets are absorbing contracts and going through a total rebuild year.

At quarterback, the Jets have well-traveled Josh McCown. McCown has always been decent, but it’s a star position. Bryce Petty is a developmental project with a good head on his shoulders and a nice career in college. He hasn’t done much in the NFL and is more of a “good guy” backup that could have a career as a third quarterback. Christian Hackenberg seems like a bust already. The Jets need him in a big way.

According to Ourlads, the Jets starting receivers are Robby Anderson, Charone Peake, and Jalin Marshall. That is so far from an awe inspiring group. Rookie Ardarius Stewart is a player. Marquess Wilson had his moments in Chicago, but after a big game he would always fade away. Frankie Hammond is a former Chief that will outhustle you like every other former Arena league wideout. Their depth is decent and they do have some big play ability. The Titans have

The Jets depth is decent and they do have some big play ability. The Titans have plenty of questions to be answered in their secondary. This is going to work out as a nice test for the Titans secondary if the Ourlads depth chart works out to be how they are subbed into the game.

The Jets offensive line is pieced together with older free agents, waiver wire players, and some lunchpail guys. The Titans should have no problem getting after the quarterback. The Jets did not follow the standard formula of drafting a line before the young quarterback and they will “pay” for that this year. Dick Lebeau’s defense should have their way with this line.

The Jets defense is another story. Despite losses, they are still a stout group. Muhammad Wilkerson, Leonard Williams, and Sheldon Richardson will offer a difficult test for the Titans young bookend tackles. Leonard Williams is as good an athlete as there is at defensive end. He was widely rumored to be the Titans pick when they drafted Marcus Mariota. Titans fans are familiar with him. This is the start of their stout defense.

In the defensive backfield, the Jets have Jamal Adams whom many projected to go to the Titans in this recent draft. It will be interesting to see him play in the NFL.

The Jets corners are average. The Titans wide receivers should get open often. If the Titans truly are a better wide receiver corps this season, then they should easily outclass this group and set Marcus Mariota up to have a nice afternoon. This is something of a “show-up and show out” game for the Titans receivers. Eric Decker will play against his former team and should fare pretty well.

The Jets linebackers are average guys looking for an opportunity. The Titans should always be leery of hungry opponents, but if Derrick Henry can get to the second level often, he could run all over this defense.

The starters usually play a quarter. Mike Mularkey hasn’t announced this yet. Don’t get carried away with the team matchups, but try to focus upon the individuals that need to succeed to make the Titans roster. Those matchups should be fun.
