When the Cleveland Browns face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week One of the 2017 season history could on the line. Ben Roethlisberger, could set the record for the most wins in Cleveland by a quarterback since the team came back in 1999.
Ben Roethlisberger looking to be the winningest quarterback in Cleveland
We all know the running joke with the list of quarterbacks down a Browns jersey. However, it is still fascinating to think that not one of these quarterbacks could add up ten wins in their home stadium. Currently, Derek Anderson has the most wins in Cleveland with ten. However, at 10-2 an opposing quarterback is tied with Anderson and has a chance to hold the record for most wins in the city since the team came back. That would be the Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger.
People joke about a certain player “owning” a team. It even came up with Roethlisberger and another division foe. However, the term could be used in its truest form in describing Roethlisberger when he owns the record meant for an opposing team’s star talents.
The Steelers are heavy favorites in this game and should be walking away from Municipal Stadium with the 11-2 record. The record could hold for a bit too. At the moment, DeShone Kizer is the newest contender, but he currently sits at a cool zero wins in that stadium. Given where the Browns are as a team it may take some time before he, or whoever replaces Kizer can get to 11 wins. That does not even factor in that Roethlisberger may have one or two more trips to Cleveland in him.
Overall, Roethlisberger is 21-2 against the Cleveland Browns. He has a 62% completion percentage and has 35 touchdowns to 17 interceptions in these games. He averages 8.3 yards per attempt against the Browns. Roethlisberger has had a star studded career, and he shines bright when beating his little brothers next door in the Cleveland Browns.
