The Carolina Panthers are off to a hot start as they defeated the 49ers by twenty points! The main reason that they did so well was because the defense made many stops and gave San Francisco little time to run their offense. This week they will face the Buffalo Bills at home and it should be interesting because Sean McDermott the head coach for the Bills was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers for many years. He was the one who helped Carolina build and strengthen the defense they have today. Both teams will be trying to figure out each other’s strategies but the Panthers defense has the edge in this game!

The Panthers defense is stacked with great linebackers like Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis Sr, and Shaq Thompson. This trio of linebackers is definitely one of the top five linebacker groups in the NFL! Luke Kuechly made an amazing interception at the beginning of the second half in the 49ers game and that showed his ability to intercept a quick pass coming at his receiver. All it took for Luke to snatch the football was a slight turn of his head and a quick reception. He can read the quarterback’s eyes to see where the ball will go and that is key to being a top notch linebacker.

Thomas Davis Sr. who recently signed a two year contract with the Panthers has not made any interceptions this season but still has plenty of time. One memorable interception last year was in Los Angeles against the Rams. Davis Sr. stretched out his entire body to get the pick! It was a very impressive play and we can all see why the Panthers have agreed to a two year deal with this star. If Thomas was not given a new contract then this year would be his last year and most likely he would retire as a Panther for life! Every game Thomas Davis Sr. works his heart out on the field and he only dreams about a Super Bowl ring! He makes great tackles and sacks that come during the most crucial times!

Shaq Thompson one of the younger linebackers sacked Hoyer once in the season opener. In his NFL career he made one defensive touchdown! The Panthers are looking forward to Thompson’s greater contribution this year because this defense is looking unstoppable! The Panthers defense reminds us of the 17-2 NFC Champion defense in 2015! With additions like Julius Peppers back they are only getting wiser and much stronger! Julius Peppers had one split sack in the opener and he is looking finer each year just like wine! There is nothing better than having a defense full of veterans.

Cam Newton may have looked a bit rusty in the first game of the season but the defense surely helped the offense gain some energy. Football is a four quarter game and defense wins championships! It will be an interesting match this Sunday against the Bills but I think that the Panthers have this game because the defense is hungry for more sacks, turnovers, and defensive stops! The offense is also looking to click as they have so many young players Cam can throw to! Maybe there will be another forty yard touchdown or large McCaffrey run? We will have to wait and see. Good luck to the Bills because this Panthers defense is starving and looking to be 2-0! Keep Pounding!!
